The film's montage sequences implicitly revealed her suppressed memories and emotions as well as her desire for salvation.

Can you imagine how children would react if they were in anguish and unable to flee or fight? Their brains may initiate a process to "digitalize" their hosts, alienating them from their ideas, emotions, and memories. The hosts then develop apathy and numbness, which ensures their survival throughout the recurrent torture. This is not the plot of a science fiction story, but a genuine experience of a victim of domestic violence. Her traumatic childhood experience has left her with childhood PTSD and depersonalization disorder, making her feel as if she is living in a computer game where she can only view herself from afar. The film's montage sequences implicitly revealed her suppressed memories and emotions as well as her desire for salvation.

Throughout her MFA study at the City University of Hong Kong, she was dedicated to investigating the possibility of enhancing people’s compassion for self and others through experimental narratives. “Bystander”, an experimental film created by her, revealed the inner world of a child abuse survivor who suffered from childhood PTSD and depersonalization disorder. “Bystander” won the global culture prize at the Stuttgart film winter festival and was included in IFVA 2019 as the finalist. Currently, she is pursuing her research and artistic creation at CityU as a Ph.D. student. Her current research focuses on strengthening the accessibility and efficiency of compassion focus therapy by integrating the existing therapeutic strategies with creative extended reality narratives. The interactive Virtual Reality version of this work is accessible at Viveport during the exhibition period, which is compatible with HTC Vive, HTV Vive Pro, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Rift S.
